The feasibility of using solar hot water supply systems (SHWS) for apartment houses is examined. The solar percentage, annual savings of fuel cost, and other performance of SHWS are evaluated by a year-round system simulation program. The parameters used in this simulation are net collector area per flat, performance of collectors, and capacity of storage tanks. The hot water supply load and the meteorological data are also given for the execution of the simulation. Standard weather data of Tokyo developed by Society of Heating Air-conditioning and Sanitary Engineers (SHASE) - HASP/ACLD are utilized as the meteorological data. The accuracy of theoretical formulae used in the simulation is confirmed by experiments afterwards. A design of a central SHWS for a model apartment house is presented, and cost evaluation of the system considered in terms of net investment for the solar system or savings of fuel cost.
