Study of the possibility of independent determination of the nucleon and pion form factors from analysis of the. pi. /sup -/p. -->. e/sup +/e/sup -/n and. pi. /sup +/n. -->. e/sup +/e/sup -/p differential cross sections

A study is made of the possibility of independent determination of the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon (F/sup v//sub 1/) and pion (F/sub ..pi../) from analysis of the reactions ..pi../sup -/p..-->..e/sup +/e/sup -/n and ..pi../sup +/n..-->..e/sup +/e/sup -/p. Calculations in the framework of a dispersion model show that the difference between the differential cross sections for the two processes depends only on the nucleon form factor. A study is made of the cross sections corresponding to production of virtual photons with transverse and longitudinal polarizations, and it is shown that analysis of these cross sections in various regions of the photon-emission angles makes it possible to determine the nucleon and pion form factors independently.
