The reaction {sup 103}Rh(n,n{prime}){sup 103m}Rh is important for neutron dosimetry because of its low threshold of 40 keV. Nevertheless its cross section is not well known in the energy range 6-14 MeV. For this reason a new measurement of this cross section was performed in that energy range. Monoenergetic neutrons produced by the D(d,n) {sup 3}He reaction in a low-mass deuterium gas target were used to irradiate Rh-foils back to back with the {sup 238}U deposit of a fission chamber. The x-rays from the decay of {sup 103m}Rh were measured with a calibrated Si(Li) detector. From these measurements {sup 103}Rh(n,n{prime}){sup 103m}Rh cross sections for 14 energy points in the range 5.689-12.003 MeV could be determined with uncertainties of {approx} 5%. The results agree within uncertainty with the evaluation of Strohmaier based on nuclear model calculations, they disagree however with the measurements of Santry and Butler. The slope of the excitation functions between 6 and 10 MeV claimed in this work is not confirmed by our data.
