EOR: what those new reserves will cost

Journal Article · · Pet. Eng. Int.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6827582
The purpose of this article is to investigate the economics of EOR, to provide producing companies with some guidelines for future operations. The unit cost of a 2.5-acre EOR project is determined for a hypothetical reservoir. Costs for this small operation can be readily expanded to a field-wide, large-scale producing operation. Chemical and gas flooding, thermal recovery, and microbial stimulation are covered. For completeness, waterflooding is also investigated. Costs given in the analyses are based on September 1986 quotes from Mid-Continent suppliers, drilling contractors, and service companies. They assume no surface or downhole equipment is in place. Costs will vary with oil prices and local economics. 4 references, 10 tables.
