Observations of emission from regions of the ionosphere acted upon by an intense radio wave are made at the second harmonic of the pump wave (PW), and the emission characteristics are analyzed. Calculations are made for the energy density at the second harmonic which arises because of the merging of plasma waves excited by the PW. Experimental and calculation results are compared. It is shown that the emission observed at the second harmonic is caused by plasma waves excited in the reflection region of the PW due to parametric instability.
