Performance of a retrofitted active space air heating system

This article describes an active space heating system retrofitted for a conventional domestic house in Maipu, Chile, at latitude 33.5{degree} South; longitude 70.8{degree} West and an elevation of 530 m above sea level. The solar system started operating in autumn 1986. It consists of one panel of 15.5 m{sup 2}, flat plate roof integrated air solar collector, a 3.4 m{sup 3} rock bin heat storage, an 80 W fan and the required ducts and controls. General design and system performances are presented.
