Interpretation and application of OSHA carcinogen standards for laboratory operations
A safety protocol implemented at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory for a project involving 14 chemical carcinogens is described. The carcinogens are: 4,4/sup 3/-methylenebis (2-chloroaniline); benzidine and salts; 3,3'-dichlorobenzidine and salts; ..beta..-naphthylamine; ..cap alpha..-naphthyalmine; bis(chloromethyl) ether; chloromethyl methyl ether; ..beta..-propiolactone; ethylenimine; N-nitrosodimethylamine; 4-aminobiphenyl; 4-nitrobiphenyl; 2-acetylaminofluorene; 4-dimethylaminoazobenzene. Specific topics pertaining to facilities, personnel practice, laboratory operations, decontamination and disposal are discussed within the context of regulations issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
