Project EHV, located in towns of Lenox and Lee, Mass., contains 18 transmission towers involving a variety of materials and design techniques. The project involves design, construction, and operation of a complete prototype ac extra hv transmission line to be operated at 750 kV; various structures, materials, and design techniques involved and unusual foundation treatments used (namely, explosive soil compaction and use of rigid pile frame) are examined.
