Patterns of fuel and energy consumption in the US pulp and paper industry 1972-1981. [Monograph]

Book ·
OSTI ID:6805459
The paper industry has successfully reduced its energy use per unit of output over the last nine years with energy-efficiency improvements that reduced fossil-fuel use. The American Paper Institute projects a 30.7% reduction in energy use per ton of output since the base year of 1972. Purchased fuel and electricity cost rose from 7.0% to 13.8% of shipment value during the same period. As the third most energy-intensive US industry, the paper industry's conservation efforts have a significant impact. About 50% of all US cogenerators are within the industry, which cogenerates 37% of its power demand for a saving of 22 million barrels of oil equivalent per year. 10 references, 16 figures, 4 tables.
