The experimental properties of secondary ..pi../sup -/, ..pi../sup 0/, and ..pi../sup +/ mesons and ..gamma.. quanta from the fragmentation region of the incident particle are presented for interactions of ..pi../sup -/ mesons with nucleons and heavy emulsion nuclei at energies 50 and 200 GeV. It is shown that the most energetic secondary ..pi../sup -/ and ..pi../sup 0/ mesons can interact repeatedly in the target nucleus. The inelastic charge exchange of a ..pi../sup -/ into a ..pi../sup 0/ for ..pi..N interactions is estimated at approx.0.3. Agreement is noted between the obtained data and the predictions of the additive quark-parton models.
