Present status of solar photovoltaic R and D in Japan

A review is given of the current state of the art in research and development of solar photovoltaics in Japan. New organizations and program structure in the Sunshine Project for assisting technological development of photovoltaics are introduced. Some recent results of R and D efforts are presented in areas from solar cell material research to systems engineering. New approaches and key technologies for improved amorphous silicon solar cells are also presented and discussed.
