Bimolecular homolytic substitution reactions of thermal /sup 18/F atoms with organotin compounds in the gas phase

Bimolecular homolytic substitution reactions have been observed with the formation of RF from fluorine atom attack on various R/sub 4/Sn compounds in the gas phase at 287/sup 0/K. Rate constants for these reactions have been estimated by competitive experiments involving CH/sub 4/, C/sub 2/H/sub 2/, HI, and the R/sub 4/Sn compounds. The following rate constants were measured (units of cm/sup 3/ molecule/sup -1/s/sup -1/): F + (CH/sub 3/)/sub 4/Sn ..-->.. CH/sub 3/F + (CH/sub 3/)/sub 3/Sn, k/sub 9/ = 3.8 x 10/sup -11/; F + (CH/sub 3/)/sub 4/Sn ..-->.. HF + (CH/sub 3/)/sub 3/SnCH/sub 2/, k/sub 10/ = 4.0 x 10/sup -10/; F + (CH/sub 2/=CH)/sub 4/Sn ..-->.. CH/sub 2/=CHF + (C/sub 2/H/sub 3/)/sub 3/Sn, k/sub 15/ = (2.1 +- 0.3) x 10/sup -10/; F + (CH/sub 2/=CH)/sub 4/Sn ..-->.. reactive products, k = (1.2 +- 0.2) x 10/sup -9/.
