Absolute rate constants for the reactions of hydroxyl radicals with CH/sub 3/F, CH/sub 2/F/sub 2/, CHF/sub 3/, CH/sub 3/CH/sub 2/F, and CH/sub 3/CHF/sub 2/ at 297 +- 2 K have been measured in the gas phase with the flash-photolysis resonance-absorption technique. The rate constants in units of cm/sup 3/ mol/sup -1/ s/sup -1/ were k/sub CHF/sub 3/F/ = (13.1 +- 1.1) x 10/sup 9/, k/sub CH/sub 2/F/sub 2// = (7.05 +- 0.84) x 10/sup 9/, k/sub CH/sub 3// = (0.21 +- 0.10) x 10/sup 9/, k/sub CH/sub 3/CH/sub 2/F/ = (140 +- 22) x 10/sup 9/, and k/sub CH/sub 3/CH/sub 2// = (22.3 +- 2.2) x 10/sup 9/. The quoted errors are the 95% confidence limits. The maximum potential influence of secondary reactions on the measured rates has been discussed and assessed to be less than 10% for all fluorocarbons except CHF/sub 3/ for which the reported value is an upper limit. 3 figures, 1 table
