This report deals with a hearing on an environmental impact study which reviews the effect of the proposed Cabin Creek Coal Mine in British Columbia, Canada. The study has increased public awareness toward the need for advance waste treatment facilities to protect the quality of Flathead Lake. It has compiled data and an understanding of natural processes controlling the quality of the environment. Emphasizing air and water resources, tools have been developed which will provide a regional perspective to the resource management decisions. The study has also opened lines of communications between our US experts and their Canadian counterparts. A review of Sage Creek coal's limited stage II environmental assessment (Canadian based) is presented. It indicates the possibility of water quality degradation in the Flathead River, air quality degradation in Glacier National Park, and adverse effects to endangered wildlife species.
