Fifteen witnesses involved in the Flathead study, the Flathead Coalition, Montana State universities and agencies, and interested parties testified at a hearing in Kalispell, Montana on the impacts of a proposed strip mining project of the Cabin Creek Coal Mine in Canada. A resolution of the issues will require the US and Canada to rise above political self-interest and cooperate in protecting the environment of both countries. A local steering committee led the environmental impact study group in its study of the Flathead River basin as a system and development of regional data for use in resource development decisions. Additional environmental assessments and statements follow the testimony.
