Coal-Fired MHD Combustor Development Project: Phase IIID. First quarterly technical progress report

This is a new contract start for the MHD Combustor Development Project and represents a continuation (Phase IIID) of the 50 MW/sub t/ coal-fired combustor development work. The scope of work covered by this quarterly report relates to those tasks associated with the Design Verification Testing of the 50 MW/sub t/ combustor, the technical support of the CDIF preparation activities and the fabrication of the second 50 MW/sub t/ combustor first stage unit. Progress during this reporting period is reported. All testing on the 50 MW/sub t/ combustor first stage was completed on 14 July 1984. A total of 31 tests were conducted. The combustor first stage assembly and associated hardware was delivered to CDIF on 30 July 1984. Fabrication of the second first stage unit was initiated and was 65% completed during this quarter. Coordination with CDIF activities was continued and a combustor User's Manual and Detail Test Plan were prepared by TRW and submitted to MSE and DOE/PETC for review and comments.
