Production of ethanol from biopolymers by anaerobic, thermophilic, and extreme thermophilic bacteria. I. Regulation of carbohydrate utilization in mutants of Thermoanaerobacter ethanolicus

Conference · · Biotechnol. Bioeng. Symp.; (United States)

One mutant of T. ethanolicus JW200 Fe(4) was characterized by studying fermentations of xylose, glucose, cellobiose, and soluble corn starch and mixtures of two or three of these substrates. JW200 Fe(4) does not show diauxic growth characteristics if xylose and hexose are supplied together. However, in mixtures, glucose is used prior to the breakdown of cellobiose or starch. 13 references, 5 figures.
