An apparatus is described for receiving an x-ray cassette having means for minimizing the entrance of a second cassette or other objects into the receiving area comprising: a housing having an opening for receiving an x-ray film cassette, a gate positioned at the opening, the gate having first and second leaves pivotably mounted about a common pin, spring means for maintaining the gate in a first for receiving and cassette and a second position for blocking and opening after a cassette has been properly passed through the opening into the housing and for maintaining at least one of the leaves in a substantially vertical position across the opening.
