Standard test method for lead in gasoline by atomic absorption spectrometry

Journal Article · · Annu. Book ASTM Stand.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6767726
An atomic absorption (AA) spectrometric method is described for the determination of the total lead content of gasoline regardless of the lead alkyl type. The gasoline sample is diluted with methyl isobutyl ketone, and the alkyl lead compounds are stabilized by reaction with iodine and a quaternary ammonium salt. The lead is determined by AA at 2833A using reagent grade lead chloride standards. The method is applicable to concentrations of lead in the concentration range of 0.010 to 0.10g lead/U.S. gal of gasoline. (BLM)
