This patent describes a diesel engine comprising a block. The block defines at least one cylinder including a head and a circumferential wall. Means proximate the cylinder head for conducting fuel into the cylinder. A piston is slidingly mounted in the cylinder. This patent comprises: means for providing pressurized air; the block further defining a clean air port communicating with the cylinder wall for conducting the pressurized air into the cylinder; the piston defining a chamber; a seal and the piston crown; second means surrounding the piston and situated between the blow-by port and the piston crown for establishing a compression seal between the piston sidewall and the cylinder wall; and the clean air port spaced from the cylinder head.
