Users should exercise caution in agreeing to financing for energy management equipment based on guaranteed savings because many contractors lack adequate financial resources. Insurance policies become invalid if the contracting company goes out of business, although this is unlikely with major companies. The article recommends several steps users can take to protect themselves.
