Observation of asymmetry in the reaction. pi. /sup -/pup-arrow. --> pi. /sup 0/. pi. /sup 0/n

Experimental results are reported on the polarization asymmetry in the reaction ..pi../sup -/pup-arrow..--> pi../sup 0/..pi../sup 0/n at momentum 39.1 GeV/c. A negative asymmetry of about 10% is observed in the mass region of the ..pi../sup 0/..pi../sup 0/ system 600--1100 MeV/c/sup 2/ , and in the mass region of the f/sub 2/ (1270) and f/sub 4/ (2030) resonances it increases to about 30%.
