Tectonic framework of disturbed belt of west-central Montana

Journal Article · · Am. Assoc. Pet. Geol. Bull.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6760703

The Disturbed Belt of west-central Montana consists of a zone of Laramide convex-eastward thrusts and fold that include the major Eldorado-Lombard overthrust that has brought Precambrian rocks of the Belt Supergroup eastward over Paleozoic and Mesozoic strata. Most of the Disturbed Belt is east of and structurally below the Eldorado-Lombard overthrust. Deformed rocks range in age from middle Precambrian to early Tertiary. Tectonic features are described that play an important role in hydrocarbon exploration in the area. (JMT)
