Overthrust and disturbed belt of west central Montana

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5865379

The presence of suitable structures, source and reservoir rocks, and oil and gas shows makes the Disturbed belt of west-central Montana a potential area for hydrocarbon exploration. Essentially part of the Overthrust belt that runs through several Rocky Mountain states, the Disturbed belt is a zone of thrust-faulted and folded strata ranging in age from Precambrian to Early Tertiary. The best reservoir and source rocks are probably in the Cretaceous zones of the eastern part of the belt, but potential reservoirs also occur in the Paleozoic strata throughout the area.
