The infrared and Raman spectra of ..cap alpha..-resorcinol crystals are investigated at low temperatures. Fine structure in the vibrational exciton states are resolved. Symmetry assignments of the crystal and molecular transitions are proposed based on the polarization properties of the bands. Most of the earlier assignments are revised.
