Energy conservation for grocery stores
Guidance is provided to assist in analyzing the energy use of a grocery store, determine areas in which energy savings can be made, and estimating the magnitude of potential cost savings. An energy management program is briefly described. Forms and instructions are provided for performing a walk-through building survey that identifies the building's equipment and occupants, describes how much energy is presently used in the form of fuels and electricity, and quantifies energy usage and the hours the building is in use. The basics of utility meter operation, meter reading, and billing procedures are reviewed, and a utility ledger form is provided. A checklist is provided that suggests possible conservation opportunities, and worksheets are provided for savings calculations, illustrated by five case histories. (LEW)
