Transalaska report: BP Alaska bringing on stream its operations center and electric grid

Two key sections of BP Alaska Inc's big North Slope project are scheduled for commissioning this month and to go into service shortly. Officials say completion of the main operating center and first stage of the grid mark is a long step toward getting the entire Prudhoe Bay production system ready to deliver oil to the Alyeska pipeline in 1977. Both of these projects represent first of a kind--and very likely one of a kind efforts. By agreement, the big Prudhoe Bay unit is split in half, with BP Alaska named operator of the W. half and Atlantic Richfield Co. operator of the E. half. BP Alaska is operator for Standard Oil Co. of Ohio. Further, to lessen duplication, operators agreed to install a single gas- handling system and a single power system. Since the selected point for reinjection of produced gas was in A's territory, this firm assumed that responsibility. BP Alaska took on the power project.
