Big North Slope compressor plant set
Atlantic Richfield Co. has completed a gravel pad for its central gas-compression plant in the Prudhoe Bay field. Piling will be driven this winter in preparation for delivery of most of the plant modules next Aug. Construction schedule for the huge facility is a tight one. However, ARCO is confident the plant will be operational by mid-1977 when field production is set to begin. A plan drawing shows Prudhoe Bay's central compressor plant. The plant is being assembled by modules in the Seattle-Tacoma area and will be shipped on barges with module weight of up to 1,000 tons during the short late-summer barge season into the arctic. The 1975 schedule provides for movement of 22 of the 31 modules, all of which will be installed by mid-1976. The 22 consist of 3 compressor modules (2 low pressure, one high pressure) and 19 others which are support facilities. The gas facility, which is operated by ARCO, will handle gas from both BP Alaska's and ARCO's operating areas in the field. Both gas and liquids will be injected through the gas injection wells.
