Moessbauer studies of the high-T/sub c/ superconductor YBa/sub 2/(Cu/sub 1-//sub x/Fe/sub x//sup 57/)/sub 3/O/sub 7-//sub delta/ (x = 0. 033)

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. B: Condens. Matter; (United States)
The high-T/sub c/ superconductor YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-//sub delta/ doped with 3.3 at. % has been investigated by Moessbauer spectroscopy. Measurements on samples prepared under various heat treatments show that Fe substitutes exclusively the Cu(1) sites with Moessbauer signals corresponding to tetragonal and orthorhombic local symmetry. The relative abundance of these signals allows the determination of the oxygen-deficiency parameter. Moessbauer measurements at low temperatures reveal magnetic hyperfine interactions which are tentatively attributed to low-dimensional magnetic ordering. Deoxygenation of the YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7-//sub delta/ phase results in the formation of the Y/sub 2/BaCuO/sub 5/ phase (the green phase) in a reversible way. The Moessbauer properties of the /sup 57/Fe-doped phase are reported.
