Process for making combustible gas

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6746834
A process of generating gas, in which the gas is substantially free from suspended carbon resulting from hydrocarbon decomposition is presented. The process consists of introducing hydrocarbon gas into a mass of solid fuel heated to a degree sufficient to decompose the hydrocarbon gas, simultaneously introducing steam therewith in amount sufficient to effect substantially complete reaction with the hydrocarbon gas, thereby producing a gas comprising essentially hydrogen and carbon monoxide and in which the ratio of hydrogen to carbon monoxide is substantially from two to one to three to one.
