Effect of copper vapor laser beam divergence on its dye laser pumping efficiency

Journal Article · · Chin. Phys. Lasers; (United States)
OSTI ID:6742453
Experimental results show that at a pumping level of 5 W, when the beam divergence of a copper vapor laser is reduced from 8 mrad to 1 mrad, the output power of the copper vapor laser pumped dye laser is more than doubled. Further improvement of divergence, however, only results in a slight increase in efficiency of the dye laser. This result is in good agreement with geometric optics analysis. Thus, an injection-locked unstable resonator is the best arrangement for a copper vapor laser as a pumping source for dye lasers.
