Some non-urban aspects of Southern Appalachian rural nonfarm population

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6740521
From a study encompassing eleven New York counties it was concluded that the Southern Appalachian rural nonfarm population is older than the US rural nonfarm population as a whole. Most of the rural nonfarm persons interviewed were not employed fulltime. Workers tended to be in positions of marginal employment. Generally, with increasing distance from an urban center, the rural nonfarm people are older, in more marginal employment positions and less likely to have any association with any urban area except to travel there for medical reasons.
