European energy security
The central theme of this book is an examination of the myth of European oil security and the risks that continue to reside in the world's precarious oil supply. While Europe's dependence on Middle East oil has somewhat declined and progress has been made toward finding alternative supplies, Europe is not invulnerable to various kinds of challenges and pressures. The book looks at the current energy situation, considers lessons that have been learned from past situations, and discusses options and policies which may or may not represent ways of dealing with future crises. Topics covered include the following: Europe's energy situation today; OPEC and Europe; the Soviet Union as an energy supplier to Europe; North Sea Oil and Gas and the region's contribution to European energy security; the International Energy Agency; problems and prospects; and options for European energy security.
