Valve and manifold for compressor bore heating

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6739486
This patent describes a gas turbine engine having an engine case housing a compressor rotor having compressor blades extending in the bore of the engine case, means for selectively heating the bore to expand the compressor rotor so as to maintain a limited clearance of the tips of the compressor blades. The means includes a valve having a first and second position. The engine casing is enlarged to accommodate the valve and defines a manifold. Connecting means leads mid-stage compressor bleed air into the manifold and a higher stage compressor bleed air into the manifold. The valve interconnects the bore and the manifold for selectively injesting mid-stage compressor bleed air and a higher stage compressor bleed air into the bore. A control means positions the valve to the first position and alternately to the second position.
