We consider an approximate equation for the quark-gluon vertex in the infrared region of quantum chromodynamics. We show that in the case of singular infrared behavior of the gluon propagator D(k)approx.M/sup 2//(k/sup 2/)/sup 2/ the asymptotic solution of this equation leads, under certain assumptions, to an eigenvalue problem for the mass and the chromomagnetic moment of the interacting quark. The result describes qualitatively the flavor splitting of the quarks.
