New relief well technology is improving blowout control

The success rate of killing blowouts with a single relief well has been significantly enhanced in recent years. Among new technological developments primarily responsible for these better results are innovations in downhole tools used to locate blowout wellbores and steer relief wells to optimum bottomhole locations.
