Topological cross sections for scattering by nuclei and the theory of multiple scattering

The Regge diagram technique is used in the theory of multiple scattering to derive formulas for the elastic and inelastic hadron-nucleus cross sections. In contrast to the standard approach, the hadron-nucleon interaction profile is not assumed to be Gaussian, and the Regge radius of the hadron is not assumed to be small in comparison with the nuclear radius. The range of validity of approximate methods used in the literature to describe topological cross sections is discussed.
