It is shown that the nucleon-nucleus scattering amplitude at high energies can be easily obtained by generalizing the nucleon-nucleon scattering amplitude and that it satisfies a simple relation of factorization. In contrast to the Glauber model, in our approach the nucleon structure of the nucleus is not used and the hadron-nucleus scattering amplitude is not expressed in terms of the hadron-nucleon scattering amplitude. The energy dependence of the total and inelastic cross sections for a number of nuclei is described satisfactorily.
