Tubing conveyed wellbore fluid flow measurement system

This patent describes an instrument for insertion into a wellbore for determining at least one of the fluid flow rate and the composition of fluids being produced in the wellbore. It comprises: a first section including means for connecting the instrument to the tubing string and first passage means for receiving pressure fluid from the tubing string; a second section including a portion of the first passage means and second passage means for conducting wellbore fluids from a first space in the wellbore to a second space in the wellbore; fluid pressure actuated seal means on the instrument including means forming a chamber operable to be in receipt of pressure fluid from the tubing string for causing the seal means to move into substantially fluid tight engagement with a wall of the wellbore to form the first and second spaces in the wellbore; valve means in communication with the first passage means and with the chamber for controlling the flow of pressure fluid to the chamber from the tubing string for causing the seal means to form the seal between the first space and the second space in the wellbore; and shutoff valve means interposed in the second passage means and operable at will for controlling the flow of wellbore fluid through the instrument.
