This patent describes a composite boiler tube having a fireside surface and a waterside surface and comprising a metallic tubular member having an outer surface and an inner surface. At least one of the metallic surfaces has an efficiency coating adhered thereto and provides the composite tube with one of the fireside surface and the waterside surface. The material of the coating is dichlorodimethylsilane or its fluorocarbon composition version and the radial thickness of the coating is on the order of 1 x 10/sup -6/ inch (2.54 x 10/sup -6/ cm).
