This article investigates the antiwear efficiency of dialkylphenolsulfonamides in motor oils. The focus of the study is on N-dialkyl-2-hydroxy-3,5-dialkylbenzenesulfonamides. Derivatives of 2-hydroxy-3,5-dialkylbenzoic acids (dialkylsalicylic acids) were synthesized in order to determine the influence of the structure of the amide fragment on the properties of the compounds. Functional properties of the compounds, such as their adsorptivity on metal, polarity, and dipole moment, were examined. A PF-1 tribometer and a four-ball tester were used to determine the antiwear properties of the compounds. It is found that the dialkylphenolsulfonamides and the amine dialkylphenolsulfonate are better in antiwear efficiency than the ash-containing commercial additives PSM'Ya (calcium sulfonate), the overbased calcium sulfonate L-59, or ASK (calcium alkylsalicylate). With regard to the antiwear efficiency of the studied synthesized compounds, amine dialkylphenolsulfonate is the most efficient, followed by dialkylphenolsulfonamide and dialkylsalicylamide.
