Thiobenzamides are synthesized by an interaction of benzaldehyde with sulphur and various amines. The structure of the resultant compounds are confirmed by IR and PMR spectroscopy. This study investigates the effects of these additives on the anticorrosive, antiwear, and extreme pressure properties of oils. Anticorrosive properties are determined in DK-NAMI apparatus at 14 C for 25h. Antiwear are tested in a four ball friction tester. Anticorrosive properties are then compared to tests of oil with INK /SUB h/ P-2p additive, antiwear to dibenzyl disulfide and phenylthioacetamides. The anticorrosive property of thiobenamides turned out to be at the same level as INKh0-21, and slightly poorer than the phenylthioacetamides. The antiwear rated similar to phenyl thioacetamides but poorer than dibenzyl disulfide.
