This book, complementary to Trace Analysis: Spectroscopic Methods for Elements (1976; J.D. Winefordner, Ed.) comprises chapters on molecular analysis by ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption, luminescence, infrared absorption, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Although it is not evident that the editors so intended, these books could be excellent texts for graduate courses in analytical spectroscopy, excluding mass spectrometry. (Neither volume, however, is priced as a text-book.) The surprising omission of mass spectrometry from t he present volume is noted in the preface: ''...a proper treatment of this instrument should be carried out in a separate monography.''
