Kinetics of acid-phase fermentation in anaerobic digestion

The kinetics were studied of the 1st phase of fermentation of biomass and the formation of acetate and other acids during CH/sub 4/ production by methanogenic bacteria. Kinetic models were developed to describe product formation rate and efficiency. The models were used to design cell mass and substrate recycling procedures to improve fermentation efficiency.
