Weatherby Engineering Co. of Houston recently completed design and fabrication of a large share of the compression and refrigeration requirements for a total offshore plant for recovering natural gas liquids in the rich Ardjuna field in the Java Sea off the coast of Indonesia. An important feature of the construction phase of the project was the use of packaged power modules. The modules containing the gas-turbine powered equipment were preassembled of the Gulf of Mexico coast and were then shipped by ocean-going barges and freighters to the Ardjuna field. Weatherby, as a subcontractor, built four 320-ton single-lift modules for 2 of the production platforms; each of these contains 2 gas turbine-powered compressor sets. Each of the platforms has provision for addition of 2 more compression sets that may be required at a later date. The compressor units consist of Solar's Centaur 4,000-hp (ISO) gas turbine driving Solar C505 and C306 compressor units.
