Atlantic Richfield is currently completing the first phase of an offshore natural gas liquids facility off Indonesia in the Java Sea. The facility, scheduled for operation by mid-1976, will include 7 platforms, a large gas and crude oil central processing plant, new quarters for 150 workers, about 50 mi of submarine pipelines, and a single-point mooring system to serve a 375,000-bbl LP-gas prestressed-concrete storage barge. The plant is designed to process 130 million CF/day of by-product gas (now being flared) to recover 9000 bbl/day of liquid propane, 11,000 bbl/day of crude blend, and 70-80 million CF/day of methane. The installation will be powered by turbines totaling 75,700 hp, with 39,800 hp for natural gas compression, 19,900 for refrigeration and recycled gas compression, and 16,000 hp for power generation. In operation, the gas and oil gathered from the producing platforms are piped to the central processing plant. In the recovery section, the gas is processed through a Fluor turboexpander to produce a propane/butane mixture and a butane-plus product which is spiked back into the crude. This, in turn, is piped to the stabilization plant to remove any propane-plus products, making the crude ready for spiking with recovered natural gas liquids product. The propane/butane mixture recovered from the gas stream is further processed by cooling, dehydration over alternating dry alumina beds, and chilling to below -40/sup 0/F before passing through a rectifier and expander to reduce the pressure to 160 psig and drop the temperature to below -120/sup 0/F to produce a methane/ethane overhead and a liquid bottoms portion which is deethanized and depropanized before flowing to the refrigerated LP-gas storage barge.
