Pyrolysis of the isomeric cresols
The paper gives the results of an investigation of the homogeneous pyrolysis of the isomeric cresols in the temperature range of 1073-1177 K at contact times of 1.5-4.5 sec. The yields of tar, pyrocarbon, ''crude gasoline'' and pyrogas, and the composition of the phenolic and hydrocarbon fractions isolated from the tars has been determined. A complete functional analysis of the asphaltenes and of the neutral oxygen-containing compounds has been performed. The dynamics of the distribution of oxygen in the cresol pyrolysis products has been established. Information has been obtained by chemical and physicochemical methods of analysis on the structure of the asphaltenes and the neutral oxygen-containing compounds. Extensive experimental data are tabulated and evaluated in terms of mechanisms of pyrolytic reactions. 15 refs.
