Tropospheric nitrogen: The influence of anthropogenic sources on distributions and deposition

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6712133
We present a three-dimensional modeling study of the global cycle of reactive nitrogen in the troposphere. We include all of the known major sources of NO{sub x}: lightning, soil microbial activity, oxidation of N{sub 2}O in the stratosphere and its transport to the troposphere, fossil-fuel combustion, and biomass burning. We present calculations for the gas-phase concentrations NO{sub x} and HNO{sub 3} throughout the troposphere, as well as for the deposition of nitrate in precipitation and by dry deposition. 132 refs., 35 figs., 7 tabs.
