Detecting very massive top quarks at the Fermilab Tevatron

We consider the dilepton-dijet signal from very heavy {ital t{bar t}} pair production with semileptonic {ital t}{r arrow}{ital bl}{nu} decays via real {ital W} bosons in the standard model. We evaluate the principal backgrounds, arising from the direct production of {ital W}{sup +}{ital W}{sup {minus}} plus two jets or {ital Z} plus two jets (with {ital Z}{r arrow}{tau}{bar {tau}}{r arrow}{ital l{bar l}}+4{nu}), and show that they can be cleanly separated by suitable cuts. We demonstrate how the top-quark mass {ital m}{sub {ital t}} can be estimated via dynamical distributions or event reconstructions or event rate and calculate the statistical correlations between different mass estimators.
