Three dragline methods for tackling deep seams are explained: the conventional extended bench method, the two-pass highwall-side method, and the two-pass spoil-side method. Where overburden is greater than 100 feet the two-pass stripping methods are more efficient. As well as reduction in rehandling, other advantages are given for the spoil-side method.
